How to Take Good Care of Your Hands

Your hands are probably the most used part of your body.  They spend most of their time completely exposed to the elements and everything that you come into contact with.  The best medical spa at the Lake of the Ozarks can help you to keep them in good condition, but there are many things you can do on a daily basis in between your visits to Serenity Medical Spa too.

Wash them gently.

Hands get washed multiple times every day.  Keeping them clean is a good thing, but you should take care to avoid harsh soaps whenever possible.  Every time you exfoliate your face, run a little over your hands too.  Also, tepid water is much better to use than hot.  Very hot water tends to dry out your skin very quickly, as well as overwashing.  This next tip will help with the dryness.

Moisturize often.

Just as we have told you in the past about skin in general, keeping the skin on your hands moisturized at all times is extremely important, especially in the winter months.  To help you out with this, keep hand moisturizer in different rooms so that you always have some nearby.  At the very least, put some in each room with a sink so you will remember to use moisturizer after each hand washing.  Buy moisturizers for your hands with SPF for protection from the sun's rays.  The sun is out all year long, and your hands are exposed to it every time that you are outdoors or near a window.

Manicure your nails.

Our Lake of the Ozarks manicures include an effervescent hand soak and relaxing hand and arm massage, cuticle trimming and conditioning, and nail shaping and polishing.  It's a very relaxing experience, and your hands look amazing when it's over.  In between visits, it's up to you to keep your nails in great shape.  Keep cuticles moisturized and clean. Healthy cuticles help to maintain healthy nails.  Always file nails in one direction, and try not to cut them too short.

Wear gloves.

Cold winter wind is notorious for drying out your skin and causing it to crack. Wearing gloves when you are out in the cold weather will help to keep this from happening.  You should also wear gloves when you use chemicals like household cleaners.  These are horrible for your hands, and the simple act of wearing gloves while using them can avoid many skin problems.

Your hands are front and center every day.  Keeping them healthy and looking their best will make you feel great and help them to look younger for a longer amount of time.  If you have other problems with the skin on your hands, like age spots, warts, or scaly areas, our Lake of the Ozarks medical spa's Physician Service and Medical Skincare services can help you.  Make an appointment to come in for a consultation so that we can discuss your options.  Taking good care of your hands doesn't take a lot of extra time or effort.  Serenity Medical Spa is here to help you in any way that we can.
